  The Ben Stelter School Fundraiser (BSSF) began in February 2023 at Nellie Carlson School, founded by Aariz Mawji. Inspired by the impact of Ben Stelter’s story, the fundraiser started as a simple, student-led initiative to support the Ben Stelter Fund. What began as one school coming together to make a difference quickly turned into the largest fundraiser in the school’s history, showing the power of student-driven impact. 

 Following its success, the fundraiser expanded in late 2023 into a multi-school initiative, bringing together five schools across Edmonton. This marked the introduction of the student leadership model and the McDavid Prize, creating a structured and motivating experience for participants. In just its second year, the fundraiser raised over $43,000, proving that the model could scale beyond a single school.
